Drafting Woes

The trouble with having an old version and a new version on the same story is that there are parts from both that I love but it’s so hard to find a way to marry them. As I’ve grown, not just as a writer but as a person, my taste in stories and what I like to write has changed and developed from what it was when I started writing this story. I’m more interested in the aftermath of the big conflict than I am in the action of it (as evidenced by, again and again, making it to the Big Fight and finding no love or joy in writing it)

I think I may have found a way to work in the elements I adore without needing to do the big, active fight and conflict, beating-the-big-bad sort of story and focus more on the relationships between characters as they navigate prejudice and misgivings because of the beating-the-big-bad that’s already happened long before they meet.

But, we’ll see! I do know that one solution would be to just back-burner this project and work on something else but I want it to be done so badly, I just need to find the angle on it that lets me get there.
